Computing Work |
||||||||
| I graduated in mechanical engineering in Poland and then undertook a postgraduate study in computing in Western Australia. By that time, I had already realised that there's more to life than computers and science! However, to support my family and my passion for travel and photography I worked in computing; 16 years in Poland and then 16 years in Australia. In year 2001, finally, I choose to retire early from office work. | ||||||||

My father introduced me to photography and to his great love of this art, when I was still in primary school, so I could say it's a lifelong passion. For me photography has become a highly creative way of communicating my current experiences together with echoes from my personal past. With all the images I chose instinctively to photograph, mostly in vivid colours, I am aiming to capture my love of nature and life with the essence and intimacies of the striking physical and human landscape. In November 2000 I was honoured by the Canberra Critics Circle Award 2000 for Visual Arts for ".....continuing achievement and dedication to the art of photography and as a prolific artist and untiring worker for the promotion of photography in Australia and abroad for over 20 years.....". To October 2001 I have held 12 individual exhibitions and taken in part of over 30 group shows throughout Australia, Poland and Germany. For many years I have conducted slides presentations for both Australian and Polish audiences. In 2000 it was an honour for me to be invited to judge some local photographic competitions. In 2001 the well-known Canberra photographer, Michael Thorn, privileged me to be a guest of honour to open his exhibition. I have instigated, organised coordinated and designed many group and community displays but the "Hidden Talents" exhibition in March 2001 was for me the greatest and the most rewarding experience ever. More than seventy exhibitors drawn from the public service presented over 200 art and craft works (painting, drawing, photography, quilting, tapestry, glasswork and other media). I am a member of the Australian Photographic Society and a Committee member of the Canberra Photographic Society. |

Writer/Photojournalist |

Since 1978, after my journey to Afghanistan, I started to write and
publish my photographs and travel stories. It was the beginning of my
freelance photojournalism. Since then, I have published more than thirty
travel stories with my photographs (some more than once) in a number of
Polish and Australian magazines, anthologies, my book and my exhibition's
publications.
In 1994 I received accreditation as an Australian News Syndicate Travel Photojournalist. During the last few years I have participated in a number of public reading, interviews and radio shows. I am a member of the ACT Writers Centre, Canberra, Australia. |

In 1999 I became an Australian Publisher by establishing the Tidbinbilla Press, named after that rugged blue-green backdrop of the Tidbinbilla Mountain to the city of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory, clearly visible from my home. It is said that the name Tidbinbilla is taken from an Aboriginal word meaning "initiation place". Wasn't it a great name to initiate a new publisher for Canberra as a collective voice of unity and inspiration? The first publication of Tidbinbilla Press was a poetry book The Imprint of Infinity by Jennifer Martiniello, an Aboriginal poet of Arrernte descent, and Margo Stanislawska-Birnberg, a Polish-born poet. It was a collection of poetry celebrating the spirit of the Australian land with my introduction and book cover photograph. The launch of the book coincided with the opening of my photography exhibition, the Outback Celebration. Tidbinbilla Press offers collaboration with writers in preparing manuscripts, provides expert editing and proofreading, manuscript design and layout, printing, marketing and sales strategies. Tidbinbilla Press in association with Basia Meder Photography produces a wide range of unique hand-crafted quality cards. I am in the process of preparing some new publications written by other authors and myself. |
