In September 1999 and June 2000 I spent again more time trekking and photographing my beloved Tatras Mountains in Poland. Poland is a country of very diversified landscape. Situated in the southern regions and stretching along the border with Slovakia the are beautiful picturesque mountain ranges called the Tatras. The Tatras are the highest mountains of the Carpathian Range and the only true alpine area in Poland. The towering peaks, some remaining snow-covered all year, have steep rocky ridges often dropping hundreds of meters to beautiful glassy smooth ice-cold lakes. My Mum introduced me to the walks of Tatras, when I was still in primary school. Every year in my youth I spent my vacation in the mountains, 400 kilometres from Warsaw where we lived. Since I have been living in Australia the Tatras Mountains, of a deep emotional and spiritual value, have became a symbol of my homeland, Poland. |
