It is still funny that many people outside Australia can't imagine the snow covered mountains in this continent. The well recognised image of Australia is of very hot and sunburns country. Well, that is why so many travellers are surprised by the Australian cold weather and even by the chilly frosty nights, right in the Red Centre in wintertime. As I live in Canberra, close to the Snowy Mountains, which in wintertime are covered by snow, I could not resist the joy of cross-country skiing. The Australian Alps are a much more gentle shaped than European Alps and perfect to touring ski. I love the open trackless snow, the beauty of the rolling curves of the mountains, the tremendous space and often the purest silence. Whenever I am there I am full of peace, stimulation and supreme content. I am a member of the Canberra Cross-Country Ski Club. |
