"To live a lifetime each day"

I am a Polish-born Australian living in Sawtell, Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia. I think of myself as an adventurous person who loves and follows her dreams and finds new experiences and challenges that extend the boundaries of her own limitations with stimulus and enrichment and a sense of achievement.

On the 6 April 2011 in Warsaw I was awarded the TRAVELERY prize by the National Geographic magazine for my Polish book, BABCIA W AFRYCE. For me the nomination by the National Geographic jury was a great honour. I am very grateful and surprised that I received so many votes by the readers, especially when I leave so far away. The good news is that the English version - Grandma in Africa is on the way. With the professional translation and editing almost completed my aim is to have the first books published by the end of 2011. Thank you all for your support!

TRAVELERY 2010 is the most prestigious traveller's award in Poland. The prize is awarded by National Geographic by Polish readers voting and by jury, assembled with the greatest traveller's, explorers, journalists and scientists who are involved in researching issues related to learning about the world, people and culture. This year the Travelery prizes were awarded to: Achiever of the Year, Science Discovery of the Year, Voluntary Initiative of the Year, Journey of the Year, Blog of the Year, and first time this year - for the best Travel Book of the Year.

TRAVELLER BOOK OF THE YEAR - For the book published in 2010 year, which in the best way is bringing to the readers the geographic and culture horizons.

BARBARA MEDER - FOR BOOK BABCIA W AFRYCE (Grandma in Africa)

This is the unusual story of Barbara (Basia) Meder, who after 30 years of work in Information Technology, and on the way to her retirement, departed to the solo journey around the world and a year long journey across Africa. In Madagascar she found herself in the middle of a revolt. In Lesotho she was engulfed in snow and in Malawi she was struck with malaria. She says that she learnt about courage in Australia, where she has lived since 1981.

When she travelled she made her notes and photographed he experiences. This become the foundation for her book Babcia w Afryce (Granda in Africa), published by Bernardinum Publisher (Poland), which very quickly become a bestseller. Is she thinking about the next book? Probably yes. The more Barbara-Basia thinks about her next travels she says, "Now, I have many more travel plans for the next hundred years. My worry is how can I realize them in the next 20 years?" The traveller is surely joking. The good news is, in September, B.Meder is planning a trip to Poland, where she will be meeting many readers.
