Poland is a country of very diversified landscape. Situated in the southern regions and stretching along the border with Slovakia are the beautiful picturesque mountain ranges called the Tatras. The Tatras are the highest mountains of the Carpathian Range and the only true alpine area in Poland. The towering peaks, some remaining snow-covered all year, have steep rocky ridges often dropping hundreds of meters to beautiful glassy smooth ice-cold lakes.

The exhibition "My Beloved Tatras Mountains" is a collection of photographs from Basia's many trips to the Polish Mountains, Tatras. Her mother introduced her to the walks of Tatras, when she was still in primary school. Every year she spent her vacation in the mountains. Since she has been living in Australia the Tatras Mountains, of a deep emotional and spiritual values, have become a symbol of her homeland, Poland.

Her pictures express her constant love for nature and reflect the beautiful landscape scenery of her beloved Tatras Mountains. She says: "During my life I have spent a lot of time between the towering peaks, steep rocky ridges, narrow valleys and icy gleaming alpine lakes, walking across them and returning to my legacy of fondly retained youth memories."

The spectacular Tatras National Park has for centuries been to the Polish people a source of cultural fulfilment and artistic inspiration. For Basia it not only gave her those values but also became a sacred place where she always dreams of returning.

The exhibition "My beloved Tatras Mountains" was displayed at the POL-ART 2000 exhibition at the Festival of Polish Visual and Performing Arts at the Queensland Museum, Brisbane, from 7 December 2000 till 27 January 2001. The solo display of Tatras photo collection was in April 2001 at the White Eagle Polish Club as a part of the special presentation titled "The Beauty of Polish Words and Music".
