HIDDEN COLOURS OF AUSTRALIA

SNOWGUMS

The exhibition is a part of a collection of photographs from many bushwalking and skiing trips to the Australian Alps and Kosciuszko National Park, undertaken by Basia Meder. She shares a commitment to capturing, photographically, some of the unique features of the snowgums of the High Country; dramatic forms shaped by the elements and the changing seasons - winds, snowfalls, blizzards and summer heat - and the colours and textures of the peeling and ever-changing bark. Basia by sharing this fascinating subject matter offers to others the experience of often hidden and unseen beauty and colours of the Australian Alps vegetation.

Professor Don Aitkin, Vice-Chancellor of University of Canberra, opened the exhibition on 4 April 1998 in Murrambateman Vine View Gallery, NSW. In 1999 the same exhibition, titled "Ukryte Kolory Australijskich Eukaliptusow" also was presented in Dong Nam Gallery, Warsaw, Poland. The opening of the exhibition by Mr Andrzej Wawrzyniak, Director of Asia and Pacific Museum was honoured by the presence of the Australian Ambassador Ms Margaret Adamson. Since 1999 some photographs from the snowgums collection have been part of a Touring Exhibition "Polish Photographers Abroad" presented in various cities of Poland, Germany, France, UK and USA.
